Introducing the "Soft Melody" Oushak rug, originating from the city of Agra, India. Handwoven by artisans in their homes, these rugs embody a blend of tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation.

Crafted with a luxurious blend of imported, long-staple New Zealand wool (50-75% of the blend) and superior local or South African wool, these rugs possess a shinier and more lustrous finish compared to rugs made solely from local wools. The imported New Zealand wool is carefully hand-carded and hand-spun into yarn, supporting the local economy in the regions surrounding Agra.

What sets the Soft Melody rugs apart is the unique single-ply characteristic of the yarn. Each knot incorporates a single thread, resulting in a thicker and denser yarn. This, combined with an asymmetrical Persian-type knot, creates a nubbier texture with visibly pronounced knots, enhancing the rug's tactile and visual appeal.

Renowned for their 6x6 quality, these rugs showcase intricate craftsmanship, contributing to their robustness and intricate design clarity. With a 100% wool pile and cotton foundations, these rugs are tightly spun with tightly woven cotton warps. Most of them are double-wefted, boasting a pile height of approximately 3/8 inch. The handspun nature of the yarn ensures subtle color variations, bringing each rug a unique aesthetic through artisanal dyeing techniques.

The Soft Melody rugs utilize chromium dyes, offering fading resistance and maintaining vibrant hues over time. These high-quality chromium dyes are primarily imported from Switzerland and are carefully applied to the wool in India, combining both international and local resources.

Soft Melody Oushak rugs are particularly admired for their resemblance to traditional 19th-century Turkish Oushaks, characterized by their comparably large knots. These rugs feature a single ply of thick yarn, resulting in a delightful nubby texture that can be noticed at the base of each knot. While antique Oushaks often exhibit a worn appearance with reduced pile, Soft Melody Oushaks capture this timeless aesthetic, adding depth and character to the rug. The subdued pile allows the nubby texture to stand out, avoiding an overly fluffy appearance and enhancing the rug's visual appeal.
