Introducing our remarkable rug from Afghanistan, boasting an exquisite Peking design. This traditional-style rug features a warm beige background, beautifully enhanced by a navy border. Crafted with meticulous care, this rug is a testament to the skill of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the renowned Esari Subtribe.

Originating from the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan, the wool used in this rug derives from sheep raised in the region's mountainous terrain. The natural conditions of this area promote the growth of longer staple oily wool, known for its superior quality in carpet weaving. After harvesting, the raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically Herat, where it undergoes the delicate processes of hand carding and hand spinning to transform it into premium carpet yarn.

True to the rich tradition of rug weaving, this piece is meticulously crafted on traditional floor looms, often within the weavers' homes or cottage industries. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type enhances the rug's allure and durability. Constructed with a cotton warp and weft, the rug's pile is formed entirely from wool. The weaving technique involves a double weft, resulting in a heavily packed, depressed warp that contributes to the rug's remarkable durability.

For centuries, only all-natural dyes have been employed in the creation of this magnificent rug. The use of such organic dye stuffs ensures the preservation of its timeless beauty and captivating colors.

The rug's weaving process and origin further showcase the artistry and expertise of the weavers. Mostly woven in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, this area is renowned for its skilled artisans known for their ability to achieve higher knot counts. The yarn used in this rug is hand-spun, featuring single ply pern knots, adding to its unique craftsmanship.

With a notable knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, the exceptional intricacy of this rug is evident. When calculated, it reveals a stunning total of 566,707 meticulously hand-tied knots, a testament to the weaver's dedication and precision.

Measuring at an impressive 5'1" x 7'6", this rug stands as a testament to the timeless beauty and artistry of Afghan rug weaving. Crafted with high-quality materials and exceptional skill, it is sure to elevate any space with its charm and elegance.
