Introducing our magnificent Serapi rug, originating from Afghanistan. This transitional-style rug showcases a beautiful design, with a medium blue background and a navy border, creating a striking contrast. Crafted by skilled weavers from the ethnic Turkmen Esari Subtribe, this rug embodies true artistry.

The wool used in this rug is sourced from the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. Thanks to its mountainous terrain, the region produces long-staple, oily wool of exceptional quality for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn, ready for production.

Using traditional floor looms within their own homes, these talented artisans create this rug using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The foundation consists of a cotton warp and weft, with a wool pile. The double-wefted technique and heavily packed depressed warp weaving result in a remarkably durable handmade carpet that will withstand the test of time.

Throughout its creation, only centuries-old natural dye substances are used, ensuring an authentic and enduring beauty. In this particular rug, the captivating blue hues are achieved through the use of all-natural indigo dye. Derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, this dye has been prized by cultures worldwide for its vibrant blue tones for thousands of years.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug boasts meticulous craftsmanship. In fact, we have calculated that there are a staggering 3,248,936 individually hand-tied knots present in this exquisite piece.

Measuring at an impressive size of 16'1" x 17'9", this Serapi rug is a testament to the rich heritage and skilled craftsmanship of Afghan weavers. Its timeless design and impeccable quality make it a remarkable addition to any space.
