Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, this stunning piece showcases the timeless Serapi design, known for its tribal style. The background color is a lovely heathered taupe, complemented by a teal border, creating a harmonious and visually appealing combination.

Handcrafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, with a majority hailing from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a testament to their exceptional craftsmanship. The wool used in its creation is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. This region's mountainous terrain naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool, perfect for carpet weaving.

To ensure the highest quality yarn, the raw Ghazni wool is brought to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is hand-carded and hand-spun into carpet yarn. The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, reflecting a cottage industry-type production.

Featuring an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug is meticulously crafted. The double wefting and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique contribute to its exceptional durability, making it one of the most robust handwoven carpets available today.

Adding to its authenticity, this rug incorporates centuries-old natural dye stuffs, ensuring its colors remain vibrant and rich over time. Additionally, most of these rugs are woven in Aqucha and Mazar Sharif, using two-ply yarn per knot.

With a remarkable knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, our calculations reveal that this rug boasts an impressive 874,654 individually hand-tied knots. This level of detail and precision exemplifies the dedication and artistry of the weavers who crafted this masterpiece.

As a new rug, it measures 7'9" in width and 9'11" in length, ensuring it can effortlessly enhance any space with its beauty and distinctive design. This exceptional rug from Afghanistan embodies the rich heritage and craftsmanship of the region, making it a prized addition to any collection.
