Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, showcasing a captivating Serapi design with a tribal flair. The background of this piece is a calming shade of blue, beautifully contrasting with the coral border. Crafted with the utmost care, this rug is made from wool on cotton, ensuring both comfort and durability.

To delve into its origin, this rug hails from Afghanistan, specifically woven by ethnic Turkmen weavers, mainly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain provides the ideal conditions for producing longer staple, high-quality wool. This raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan near Herat, where it undergoes meticulous hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn.

The weaving process takes place in the weavers' own homes, following the traditional floor loom technique. Using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot, this rug exhibits the expertise of the craftsmen. Its durable construction is achieved through double wefting and a heavily packed, depressed warp, resulting in a carpet that can withstand the test of time.

Adding to its allure are the centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs used in the creation of this rug. The stunning blue hue is derived from natural indigo dye, extracted from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo dye has been cherished by various cultures throughout history for its ability to produce vibrant blue shades, and this rug showcases the timeless beauty of this dyeing technique.

In terms of size, this rug measures 10'1" X 13'7". It boasts a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship invested in its creation. Based on the KPSI, we have determined that this rug boasts an impressive total of 1,558,747 individually hand-tied knots.

Immerse yourself in the captivating allure of this Afghan rug, crafted with skill and passion by talented weavers. With its vibrant design, durable construction, and rich history, this rug is a true treasure to enhance any space.
