Introducing our exquisite Afghani Serapi tribal rug, featuring a captivating design that has been intricately handwoven by skilled weavers from the ethnic Turkmen community. This remarkable rug originates from the Esari Subtribe in Afghanistan, where the weavers have access to the finest wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool, ideal for creating luxurious carpets.

The wool is brought from Ghazni to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes a meticulous process of hand carting and hand spinning to transform it into high-quality carpet yarn. Utilizing traditional floor looms in their own homes or through cottage industry practices, the weavers skillfully create this masterpiece.

Crafted using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug boasts exceptional durability and longevity. The foundation consists of a cotton warp and weft, while the soft and luxurious pile is made entirely of wool. The double wefted technique, along with the heavily packed depressed warp weaving, ensures the utmost strength and resilience in this handwoven creation.

One of the distinguishing features of this rug is its awe-inspiring navy background, beautifully complemented by a rust border. The main color is elegantly infused with mesmerizing shades of blue, which are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs. Known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, this dye has been used by humans for thousands of years, lending vibrant blue hues to various cultures worldwide.

The Afghani Serapi tribal rug possesses a knots per square inch (KPSI) measurement of 80, indicating the meticulous craftsmanship invested in its creation. Based on this KPSI, we have calculated that this remarkable rug comprises an astounding 1,192,366 individually hand-tied knots.

Experience the timeless beauty and exceptional quality of this Afghani Serapi tribal rug, a testament to the rich craftsmanship of Afghan weavers.
