Introducing our remarkable rug from Afghanistan, we proudly present an exquisite piece of artistry. Handcrafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug showcases a traditional design known as the sickle leaf. Its background features a deep eggplant hue, while the border is elegantly adorned with a lustrous gold.

Measuring at an impressive size of 8'10" x 11'9", this rug is made using the finest materials. The wool used in the creation of this masterpiece is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. These sheep are raised in mountainous terrain, which naturally produces longer staple, oily wool of superior quality for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically near Herat. Here, the wool undergoes a meticulous process of hand carting and hand spinning to transform it into exquisite carpet yarn. The weaving of this rug takes place on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, representing a cottage industry production style.

Utilizing an asymmetrical "Persian" knot technique, the rug features a durable cotton warp and weft, with a luxuriously soft all-wool pile. The weaving process involves a double weft and a heavily packed depressed warp, ensuring the utmost durability of this handwoven treasure.

Adding to its allure, this rug boasts centuries-old natural dye stuffs, resulting in mesmerizing and vibrant colors that will delight any discerning eye. Each knot is meticulously crafted, with a knots per square inch (KPSI) measurement of 80. With this calculation, we estimate that this incredible piece comprises a staggering 1,181,214 individually hand-tied knots in total.

Adorn your space with this stunning Afghani rug, a testament to the skill, dedication, and rich cultural heritage of its weavers. Its intricate design, superior craftsmanship, and undeniable beauty make it a true masterpiece that will elevate any interior.
