This antique rug originates from Tabriz, a prominent weaving center in northwestern Iran. Tabriz rugs are renowned for their traditional designs and intricate artistry, often reflecting the region's rich weaving heritage. This particular rug, crafted circa 1930, features a classic beige background and a complementary brown border, with wool pile hand-knotted onto a cotton foundation.
The design of this Tabriz rug epitomizes traditional Persian artistry, showcasing an array of floral and botanical motifs. These elements are meticulously interwoven to create a vivid tapestry of flowers, leaves, and vines, set against the neutral beige backdrop. The primary motifs are rendered in a harmonious palette that includes shades of brown, red, pink, and green. The subtle yet varied colors contribute to the rug’s sophisticated and intricate appearance.
The rug is bordered by multiple bands which serve to frame the central field. The innermost border is narrow and features small, delicate floral designs. This is followed by a slightly wider band adorned with more elaborate floral patterns. The outermost border is the most expansive, incorporating intricate and densely packed botanical designs that mirror those in the central field, albeit on a reduced scale. This progression from narrow to wide borders adds depth and complexity to the visual composition of the rug.
Symmetry is a key characteristic of this Tabriz rug. The central motifs are mirrored across the horizontal axis, providing a balanced and harmonious aesthetic. This symmetry extends to the placement of the floral patterns within both the central field and the borders, ensuring a cohesive and orderly visual impact.
The pattern density is notably high, with the rug’s surface teeming with floral and botanical elements, leaving little empty space. This densely packed patterning underscores the skill and precision of the artisans who crafted it, making the rug a fine example of Tabriz’s rich weaving tradition.

Don’t take our word for it
Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.
I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!
Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.
In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!
Never have I enjoyed spending money as much as at Landry & Arcari!!! Thank you so much for your attention and guidance. The rug I chose grounds the furniture and makes the living room. It is so beautiful and I really appreciate all of your help.
