Introducing the exquisite rug from Afghanistan, this new treasure showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly hailing from the Esari Subtribe. It is made with top-quality materials, consisting of wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that naturally produces longer staple, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of being hand-carded and hand-spun into carpet yarn, ensuring the utmost quality.

To create this magnificent piece, the wool is meticulously woven on traditional floor looms in the artisans' own homes, reflecting the cottage industry production style. The weaving technique employed is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, known for its strength and durability. The rug features a cotton warp and weft, with the luxurious wool pile creating a remarkable contrast. The weaving process includes a double weft and heavily packed, depressed warp, resulting in one of the most durable handwoven carpets available today.

Embracing tradition, this rug showcases the use of centuries-old, all-natural dyes, ensuring its colors will gracefully age over time. The intricate design and pattern of this rug are primarily woven in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, renowned for its skilled weavers known for their expertise in achieving higher knot counts. Each knot is meticulously tied by hand using a single ply pern knot yarn, a testament to the weavers' commitment to excellence.

Measuring 8 feet 9 inches by 11 feet 8 inches, this rug boasts an impressive knots per square inch (KPSI) of 162, indicating the exceptional attention to detail in its creation. Based on this KPSI, we have calculated that this rug features a remarkable 2,370,979 individually hand-tied knots in total, emphasizing the dedication and mastery that goes into its production.

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan with this extraordinary rug, a true testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of its Turkmen weavers.
