Introducing our exquisite handwoven rug, derived from the rich heritage of Afghanistan. This particular rug originates from the Afghan region, specifically crafted by ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe. The design reflects the traditional tribal style, blending elements of Turkmen influence.

The rug features a captivating combination of light blue as the background color and a vibrant coral border, creating a visually striking contrast. Crafted from the finest materials, this rug consists of high-quality wool on a cotton foundation, ensuring its durability and longevity.

Measuring at 8'11" x 11'11", this rug showcases meticulous craftsmanship with a knot type known as the asymmetrical "Persian" knot. The weavers have utilized traditional floor looms, weaving in their own homes or within a cottage industry setting, resulting in a truly authentic piece.

The wool used in this rug hails from the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan, renowned for its mountainous terrain nurturing sheep that produce longer staple, oilier, and higher-quality wool. After the raw Ghazni wool is collected, it is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, particularly Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning into carpet yarn, ready for weaving.

The exceptional craftsmanship is further accentuated by the double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique. This age-old practice guarantees the utmost durability, ensuring that this handwoven rug will withstand the test of time.

To enhance its visual appeal, centuries-old natural dye stuffs have been used. This rug features a captivating shade of blue derived from natural indigo, obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant. This ancient dyeing technique, known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, has been utilized by various cultures across the globe for thousands of years, resulting in a truly timeless and vibrant blue hue.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, we proudly present this rug as a testament to the meticulous skill and artistry of Afghan weavers. In fact, our calculations estimate that this rug bears 1,209,282 individually hand-tied knots, showcasing the immense effort and dedication put into its creation.

Immerse yourself in the extraordinary cultural tapestry of Afghanistan with this remarkable rug. Experience the exquisite design and superior craftsmanship firsthand, as it graces your home with its undeniable beauty and rich heritage.
